an album a day keeps death at bayRSSarchive

Simple, astute, and ass-kickingly badass, Grand Funk Railroad had one thing in mind when they came to town: helping you party down. That mantra, derived from their aptly titled 7th studio album, We’re An American Band (1973) and the eponymous song on said album, is the guiding light for GFR. Regardless of ass hugging spandex and fashion-mullets (oy, the 70’s…), the Railroad sure knew how to put together one helloffa rock album. Between the titular single, the bluesy, badass swagger of “Black Liccorice” and just about every other track on We’re An American Band, there’s nothing not to like here; there’s the pomposity and the stupidity, but the sheer, smirking irony that belies a true ability to write a rock song is what makes GFR so unforgettable. Ain’t no party like a Grand Funk Railroad party.
